Salaam, geliefde

Ludovico Einaudi’s “Rose”, a composition from his beautiful album ‘Divenire’, inspired me to write a song to it – in Dutch, this time. Mr. Einaudi owns all rights to the music score. No copyright infringement intended.

Salaam, geliefde | Soundcloud

Salaam, geliefde
Wat fijn je weer te zien

Waar ging je reis heen?
Hoe is het jou vergaan?
Ik bad om jouw geluk
En nu keert het terug naar mij..
Ik koester wat ons vleugels geeft
Verbonden en toch vrij

Het is je goed gegaan
Ik prijs de dag en nacht
Wat heb ik jou gemist
Blijkbaar toch op jou gewacht
‘k Verlangde naar jouw levenskracht
Jouw armen om me heen

Jouw passie brandt in mij

Dus ga in vrede voort
En weet je welbemind
Ik heb je innig lief
Ik weet dat jij er bent

Salaam, geliefde-
Het was fijn je weer te zien

Main Raasta, Momina Mustehsan & Junaid Khan, CSP#9 E5

Whenever I hear this great pop song by Momina Mustehsan and Junaid Khan as featuring in Coke Studio 9, episode 5, I think of the Dutch band the 3Js. If there’s any group in The Netherlands able to render this song to a Dutch mass audience, it’s them. To help them I already translated the lyrics…  😉

The music is directed by the fine gentlemen of Noori and the song itself as such is produced by Strings.

Thaame haathon men sapne                  Een roos met teveel doornen groeit..

Apne naseebon ko likhen                        .. maar wist je dat dat dat juist
hum iraadon se                                           Beïnvloedt dat die roos zo bloeit..?
Aa zindagi                                                     Niets is zwart of wit;

Aa zindagi                                                      Niets is zwart of wit;

Hum hain raasta                                          Gister is geweest
Hum hain zindagi                                       Morgen is nog niet
Hum hain aasamaan                                  Nu is het moment
Hum hain raushani (x10)                          Hou van wie je bent

Hum hain raasta                                         Gister is geweest
Hum hain zindagi                                      Morgen is nog niet
Hum hain aasamaan                                 Nu is het moment
Hum hain raushani (x2)                           Hou van wie je bent

Hum hain raushani                                   Hou van wie je bent

Augenblick

An experimental phone recording of lyrics I wrote to the beautiful instrumental music of Dirk Maassen’s “Augenblick” in its version as a sketch for a studio session. He owns all rights to the music score. No copyright infringement intended.

Es gibt keine Chance mehr to dance with you
Und es wird nie mehr geschehen that I’ll talk to you
Deine Augen gehen nicht aus meinem Kopf
Hab’ schon alles versucht doch I’m giving up

Wo bist Du denn jetzt?
Hörst Du mich dort?
And are you at peace?

For you gave your all for a greater cause
But now you’re gone like the wind
It made you lose your deepest fear
To reach where nobody dared

You followed their ways back through the days turning each page waiting to face nothing but love
But the death drums of war sounding afar swallowed you whole coming to call out “Hell..!”

Also.. now gibt’s keine Chance mehr to dance with you
Und es wird nie mehr geschehen that I’ll talk to you
Deine Augen gehen nicht aus meinem Kopf
Hab’ schon alles versucht doch I’m giving up

Seit frei
Ja, ich liebe Dich
Und umarme Dein Herz in jedem Augenblick

(Love will) Deliver us

A tribute to MasterPeace’s global campaign against war: #WeWantPeace. An experimental phone recording of lyrics I wrote to the beautiful instrumental music of Ludovico Einaudi’s “Nightbook” from his album ‘Nightbook’.

We’re right where we’re supposed to be
Doing what we need to do, every night
We’ve shed our skin, we’re breathing in with our Guide
We’re moving on, growing strong in the light

We’ve been crossing borders whilst setting hills aside
Of our youthful aspirations overgrown with lullabies
We’re working on ourselves to transcend our pride
Transforming whatever mistake our past defied

We’re mindful of our journey, awakened what transpired
For through it all we still endeavour the ‘good fight’
But I’ve come to see that turtles fly
And that hearts break all the time
Now each time I think that I belong
Everything seems to be made undone

Only love can deliver us – and I know love will deliver us

Unicorns on toddlers’ swings
Are reaching out now truth rings
And Glass tinkles as my daughter sings her song
But fragile hands are still mine-picking,
Children’s eyes are blood-dripping
And all along war rages on

And the grass seemed ever greener on the other side –
But the mess is never cleaner on the other side,
And now the stress is ever greater on that other side, tonight

When will we go from here?
When will we wake up?
And when, when, when will it stop?

Only love can deliver us – and love will deliver us
Only love can deliver us – and love will deliver us

I call upon all angels – I call upon the light, tonight
I call upon all angels – I call upon the light

Beat of Life

A song written to Ludovico Einaudi’s “The Snow Prelude N.15” from his beautiful album ‘Nightbook’.

We met at a vernissage in Amsterdam
An Iranian art exhibition, at Castrum Peregrini
He was not my type, so I thought,
But I liked him, yes
I liked him / from the start
Guess he already had my heart
In fact, we’ve never been apart
What could I do?
Should I have let him go?

To the beat of life, I surrendered
To the beat of life, I surrendered
I went to the other side
Got crucified
‘Cause to the beat of life, I surrendered

We said goodbye in the night, and went our ways
There and then we were strangers
Through his eyes I see the world now
And not just fifty shades of grey
But I’m not prey to adultery –
Beauty reigns..

We met again at a vernissage, in Vienna
An international art exhibition, at the Heiligerkreuzerhof
But he was not for me, so they thought,
Though I love him, yes
I love him from the start
Guess he still has my heart
In fact, we’ve never been apart
What can I do?
Should I let him go?

I smell him everywhere, his touch enfolds my soul
I feel him everywhere -he’s still undressing my all

To the beat of life, I surrender
To the beat of life, I surrender
I’m traversing to the other side
So, crucify me!
‘Cause to the beat, the beat of life, I surrender

Future Paradigm

A song written to Ludovico Einaudi’s “Rêverie” from his beautiful instrumental album ‘Nightbook’.

So here I go again
I doubt to board the plane
That will bring me where you are –
To a future paradigm

For face to face we’d be
Where the Danube meets
Sun-kissed city shores
Past crowded shopping streets

God knows where this is heading
Lost sense of us, if we belong
I´d come to celebrate our union
And to hold on..

Now I can’t see what we are shaping
I just pray that we’ll stand tall –
I thought whatever we’d encounter
Would help us rise if we would fall

I wonder if there’s ‘ever after’
If you want me by your side
For to the world I’m any other
But undercover,
Your virtual bride

-I was your queen of the night..

I want to thank you for what you have come to mean to me
And I want to do justice to the blessing your presence bestowed upon me

Is this our last dance?
Should we leave it like this?

You were my beacon of light, added fuel to the fire
We reached higher and higher
Till there was nothing left of us
But dust
Or lust?

Our love?

So here I go again
l doubt to board the plane
That would bring me where you are
To a future paradigm..

Dip’n Dye Grace

A song written to Ludovico Einaudi’s “Lady Labyrinth” from his beautiful album ‘Nightbook’.

Wherever I go I’m aware of your soul
Tracing my steps to and fro
I yield like the yawn escaping control
It’s well beyond midnight
Long past its holy hours

Sacred the core of our daily chores
Repeating the good intent
Our tide’s coming in on uncharted shores
Whilst lack of sleep steeps the curve
Of a newborn tradition

Deeper and deeper we savour the light
Mending our frame of life
But we´re not the same for one we’ve become
A fabulous face of forgiveness

For we’re dip’n dye grace

Now angles have shift as an angel was watching
An apricot-coloured hotel room
Cinnamon sweets and cardamom seeds
Whilst rose-scented cheeks glowed upon mine

Deeper and deeper we savour the light
Mending our frame of life
But we´re not the same for one we’ve become
A fabulous face of forgiveness

For we’re dip’n dye grace

Buttersweet sweat is fattening up
The treat of this love
We’re ready to rock ‘n roll
So peace be upon us; peace be upon us
-Peace be upon us
Be upon us, be upon us, be upon us, be upon us

For we’re dip’n dye grace

You precious – Nootuitgang Leiden 2009

The 16th of April 2009, the Lebanese Bassel Hajj Chehade and the Dutch Daniëlle Dürst Britt participated in the Leiden selection of the "Nootuitgang Student Singer-Songwriter Contest" with their song "You precious".

A song about the beauty of friendship, when you have lost your way. What would you be without inspiring and beloved friends around you?

"You precious"

Losing sight while all is fading / From black to bright, and back again / Whirling ache has brought me down

Oh, the madness of the reason / Its cutting edge will cut my soul / Spinning ’round I’ll hit the ground

Though you’re the precious in the dust of my life / ‘Cause you shine as touched by grace / I’ll never get to find the ways / To tell you what you mean to me

Still, there are storms that rage my life / And no one sees the darkness coming / I fight to stay out of the eye

Though you’re the precious in the dust of my life / ‘Cause you shine as touched by grace / I’ll never get to find the ways / To tell you what you mean to me

You precious / you precious..

Though you’re the precious in the dust of my life / ‘Cause you shine as touched by grace / I’ll never get to find the ways / To tell you what you mean to me

You precious..

When did you know you had to go and leave me lonely? / Thought you were so sure you wanted more -not make me over.. / Well, on your way you said you’d stay, to be around me / I guess you’ve changed your mind, ’cause now I find you with another / And baby, I believed you’d set me free for something good / You made a choice I never understood..

For once upon a time we seemed so fine; a perfect couple / You said you were my man, would give me what you can, for ever after.. / I thought we had it all; that we stood tall against the playground / But you turned away from me, unexpectedly, and let me down / And I can’t believe what’s happening to me just now you’re gone / I must have been mistaken all along..

Enhique

You caught my eye with your shiny smile and your curly hair / Getting on a train would never be the same / now I’ve met you

Your soul so bright even in the light of that cold ‘coupe’ /  You’ll find your way and I’m sure you’ll gain / what you’re after

Oh.. oh oh.. -hey!

Now do you smile like me? It’s like I’ve known you for many years / And I can’t help but make it clear that you feel like a best friend / while we’ve just met

Yeah Enhique.. how you made me happy and full of joy / Oh Enhique.. you hugged my heart when we parted and I ran away to catch my bus /Now I wished we could walk along that beach one day /and say that we’ve met by occasion

So do you smile like me? It’s like I’ve known you for many years / And I can’t help but make it clear that you feel like a best friend / while we’ve just met

Hey Enhique.. how you made me happy and full of joy / Oh Enhique.. you hugged my heart when we parted and I ran away to catch my bus /Now I wished we could walk along that beach one day /and say that we’ve met by occasion

On that rainy night you couldn’t buy your ticket at Frankfurt station / So I helped you out / and we laughed about / the beauty of meeting strangers

Oh, do you smile like me? It’s like I’ve known you for many years / And I can’t help but make it clear that you feel like a best friend / while we’ve just met!

-How I wished we could walk along that beach one day /and say that we’ve met by occasion..

Wireless (I’m connected)

There was no gravity to hold our horses / We once were lost in spaces so unknown / But do you realise the spheres are ever changing? / Now I’m floating on the starlight -I’m revived

Oh no, there’s no darkness to surround us / We’re guided by the grace within our souls / Still sometimes I can’t believe time looped around us / Engraved in sin as if we’re meant to be despised

Yet I’m aware of the kindness of our nature / How I’m shaped to be of service to our kind / And I will strive to share the best that I might guide for / Since intuition proved I’m worth to be alive

And I’m not wireless, I’m connected / To the utmost source of love I comprehend / Though it reaches far beyond all I can dream of / And it taught me it will never reach an end

And my pasttime hurt has helped me to surrender / To the greatness of the One who understands / That just in order to arrive at certain levels / Our bleeding hearts must try to love, to make a mend

No, I’m not wireless, I’m connected / To the utmost source of love I comprehend / And it reaches far beyond all I can dream of / And it taught me it will never reach an end

Hey..

I’m not wireless, I’m connected / To the utmost source of love I comprehend / And it reaches far beyond all I can dream of / And it taught me it will never reach an end

Oh..  I’m not wireless, I’m connected

I’m connected
